Roundbacks

If you ask me, if you're going to get an acoustic guitar, get a roundback. They are much more comfortable, much more compact, and they project better. Also, you can get more projection if you get one with side holes rather than having the soundhole under the strings; it gives the string more to resonate against, and it's bassier. Ovation is the most famous manufacturer of roundbacks, but I prefer Mansfields. They are more comfortable, smaller, not as harsh, and are some of the few acoustics to have bolt on necks. The only other acoustic guitar with a bolt on neck that I know of is the Tacoma Thunderchief acoustic bass. Speaking of basses, the best acoustic ones are roundbacks and/or resophonics, for the same reasons as the guitars.

Roundbacks are much more acoustically efficient than conventional guitars; whereas conventional guitars are like trying to get a drink by filling a glass beyond the overflow point and putting your mouth against the side, a roundback is like a satellite dish transmitter.
